The gorgeous Ferrari 250 GT Lusso Berlinetta is one of the most exquisitely

proportioned and most beautiful of all Pininfarina styling creations on the

legendary front-engine Ferrari 250 GT chassis. These were classic, high-

performance GT road cars with the difference, for they combined prodigious

power and speed with the highest contemporary levels of elegance and

comfortable accomodations for their passengers. The prototype of the new 250

GT Lusso was launched at the Paris Motor Show in October 1962 representing

Pininfarina's zenith and final evolution of the Ferrari's legendary 250 model.

The Lusso was the last Ferrari model equipped with the legendary Gioacchino

Colombo- designed 3.0 litre V12 engine Tipo 168 which only has been supplied

to the Lusso and the Ferrari 250 GT Short Wheel Base. With three Weber

carburettors as opposed to the six used on the racing versions, the unit used in

the Lusso produced about 250 bhp and was capable of propelling the car to a

top speed of 240 km/h. The new 250 GT combined gorgeous styling with a

leather-trimmed interior and all the race-bred V12 performance that continues

to symbolise Ferrari still today.

The Lusso was manufactured from 1963 until 1964, a very short period with

merely 350 cars produced.

The Lusso on offer has been originally delivered into Switzerland to the market

dealer Ital Auto in Lausanne. Its original colour specification has been argento

with the Nero (black) hide interior. It remained in Switzerland where it has been

driven a while by the famous Porsche works race driver Jo Siffert. In this time

the originally supplied three carb set up has been changed against the more

desirable Weber six carbs which has been used for the 250 GT SWB alloy race

cars. The car still has the its original early Weber six carb set up which increase

the engine power by 20 bhp. In the seventies the car was sold by the Paul

Blancpain which has been the manager of Jo Siffert to the south of Germany. In

the late eighties the car changed hands a couple of times being in England.

From there it was sold by the famous Ferrari dealer John Collins into the hands

of a Netherland based enthusiast who restored and serviced the car over the last

18 years. This is documented by an enormeous file of restoration and service

bills.

This Lusso has been sold to its first owner in its silver paint and its black

interior. Astonishingly the original colour specification has never been changed.

And even more interesting is the fact that this Lusso is one of the very few cars

in existance which still has its original black leather interior in very nice shape.

The car runs and drives like new after having received a complete engine rebuilt

in 2005. We have to admit that this Lusso is one of the nicer original examples

which has crossed our way in the last couple of years.

I only could recommend to have a look to this fantastic Lusso in its original

colour specification having been in the hands of one of the most famous

race drivers of Switzerland.
